Event Description

Sudden Oak Death, a fungus-like mold that is ravaging coastal California's beautiful live oaks, has reached the East Bay. Working with Dr. Matteo Garbelotto of UC Berkeley, local groups are seeking to help track and slow the spread.

SIGN UP HERE FOR OUR VOLUNTEER SURVEY, Sat. and Sun., April 30-May 1. At the FREE training on the UC Berkeley campus, you will learn to recognize and collect samples from infected host plants. Collect where you want, or we will suggest locations and help groups plan routes in advance. Samples left at a campus drop box by 5 PM Sunday, May 1, will be analyzed for the pathogen. Results will be placed on a public database and Google Earth. A community meeting will cover results and what can be done to slow the disease or protect specific trees.

For questions or help with planning locations, contact or 510 848 9358. For general information , contact the Garbelotto lab or Sudden Oak Death Network .
